Yummy plate of Jamaican food.

Welcome to Jamaica House located in Richmond, VA. If you are looking for authentic Jamaican food at a great price you have found the right place.

Opened in the summer of 1994, Jamaica House became home away from home for island people living in Richmond. That means on a Saturday morning when you're hankering for a plate of Ackee n' Salt fish and Fry Dumpling, or on a Friday afternoon the only thing you're hungry for is a steaming bowl Red Peas Soup, only place to satisfy those cravings in Richmond is Jamaica House.

Our main purpose then as it is now, is to provide the most authentic Jamaican fare at an affordable price. A few of our menu staples are Curry Goat, Oxtail, Jerk Chicken and Cowfoot. Some of our proudest moments are when customers travel to Jamaica and return to tell us that they couldn't wait to come back for some Oxtails! For that we are grateful yet humble.

With the help of Happy the Artist we've created an island delight. Happy, has wrapped the restaurant in a series of Caribbean murals, capturing the energy and spirit of Jamaica. We are able to offer our customers the same warm friendly hospitality Jamaica is famous for.

We started out with 4 tables and 14 chairs, 14 years later we still have 4 tables and 14 chairs! Another thing that hasn't changed is our commitment to consistently produce good food. That is due in large part to the hard work and dedication of our chef, Lenworth Roper. Chef Roper has set and maintained that standard for over a decade. As the leader of the most dedicated crew you can imagine, he meets everyday challenges with a smile and 'no problem mon'!

As an owner today, I'm faced with the same challenges I did in 1994; which is how to provide our extremely loyal customers the best value, while remaining true to our culture. It hasn't been easy and I don't expect it'll ever be, but it's what we at Jamaica House thrive on.
